Fear (A reworking of a piece from 5 years ago.)

Fear asks a variation of a question
it figures to be rhetorical;

no matter the undertaking
Fear asks:

"What if...?"

"What if I hate it in the new house?"

"What if I keep the child and it gets sick?"

"What if she laughs at me?"

"What if my heart gets broken?"

Fear supposes no endeavor can work
and for all these scenarios
Fear has a plan

(Usually involving
retreat
isolation
or some type of
violence)
and congratulates itself for having a plan
being wise
and prepared;

But for all Fear's puffed up pride
there is a variation of the question

it
just
can't
answer:

"What if it works?"

"What if the house feels like home?"

"What if the child grows up strong and healthy?"

"What if she says yes?"

"What if she feels the same way?"

Fear has no answer to this variation,
and its lack of something to say
says a lot about Fear:

Fear is pretty stupid.
